Kia Ora Ko Hannah tōku ingoa. Hello, my name is Hannah!
I’m an avid writer, outdoor lover and the girl behind Notes to Home.
Originally from England, I currently live in Auckland and my heart beats for the outdoors.
Growing up in New Zealand has been the most incredible privilege of my life, and as I come from a family who love to explore, it was a match made in heaven.
I’ve always loved moving around, and although I don’t love change, the thought of trying new things and spending time in places that make you feel small fills me with more joy than I care to admit.
I think that’s why I love the mountains so much. Standing amongst great towering peaks feels like your life has instant perspective.
My love for exploring began as a little girl, listening to my parents’ wild backpacking stories from the ’90s and at 15, I jumped at the chance to go on a school trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. That’s where it really took off!
In 2018, after a big change in my life, I hopped on a one-way flight to London. Traveling solo was a game changer—it taught me how to find comfort in my own company and connect with people along the way who forever alter your identity. When I returned to New Zealand later that year, getting back to normal life felt tough. I knew I wanted more in life than a regular 9-5 job, so I worked hard to save up for a trip to Europe with my best friend, Josh, in 2020.
While that didn’t quite go as planned, I turned my savings into a project, transforming a 2004 Ford Transit into a home on wheels.
I’ve spent the past three years travelling to every corner of New Zealand, experiencing all this beautiful country has to offer. We’ve hired cars, camper vans, taken our own van and even used a 4×4 and rooftop tent combo. I’d like to consider myself an NZ travel enthusiast, so please get in touch with me if youhave any questions!
In May 2023, we took a leap of faith and set off on a one-way flight from Auckland to London, kicking off an epic eight-month journey through Europe.
From the breathtaking Dolomites and vast landscapes of Scotland to hilly streets of Portugal and beautiful beaches in Greece. It was a trip full of unforgettable moments and I miss it every day.
But, all good things must come to an end. After surprising my family at Christmas, I’m back in New Zealand, working and proving you don’t have to quit your jobs to explore.
Come along as I satisfy my unrelenting desire to explore the world. See you out there!!
